Our buddy Sal joined us on the podcast this morning after attending the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony over the weekend. We got his perspective on how things went and what folks have to look forward to when they see select portions on HBO.

We also planned a trip to hang out and watch Baseball.

A native of Brooklyn, New York, Sal Cirrincione got his start in 1983 at the legendary WNEW-FM/AM in New York City where he worked in news production, promotion and as a producer for remote broadcasts. In 1987, he headed to Connecticut to become a promotion director at WRKI in Danbury, followed by, in the same role, WHCN in Hartford.

In 1990, Sal returned to New York City, first taking a position at Neer Perfect Productions, followed three years later by MJI Broadcasting where he created a daily music news and audio service for rock radio. Today’s Rock Facts, and its spinoff, The Classic Daily, are still the leading sources of music news and artist interviews for over 100 of the top rock and classic rock stations across America.

MJI was purchased by Premiere Radio Networks in 1999 and Sal made the transition where he continues in his role as Senior Director of Rock Programming and Specials. In addition to writing The Classic Daily, he is also responsible for artist interviews, including numerous sessions with members of The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, The Who, Eric Clapton, Bruce Springsteen, Elton John, U2 and hundreds of others. He also covers top music events around the world; produces award-winning specials, including iHEARTRADIO’s Icons series; and has been the MC on the four Moody Blues Cruises, its spinoff, On the Blue, as well as the Rock Legends Cruise 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 & 7.

He resides in New Jersey with his dog Brody.

There are legends and then there are legends. Robin Trower is BOTH. He played with Procul Harum and fronts his own power trio that will be visiting the Pabst Theater in Milwaukee on April 14th. He has a new album out too called Coming Closer to the Day on which he plays all the musical instruments (sans drums) and provides the vocals.

Robin had just a few minutes to spend with us on the phone to talk about what shaped him musically, the new album, the tour and more.

The morning after the 20th anniversary of his marriage to his wife Tish,  Michael Ciravolo took some time to talk with us about Beauty in Chaos. We talked about the album’s guests and their contributions as well as the role(s) his wife and daughters played in the project.

Along the way, we also answered the pressing questions like, “Is it really a Van Halen reunion if Michael Anthony isn’t on stage?”

Michael Ciravolo is also the President of Schecter Guitars and we only recently learned of this project through Anastasia Vishnevsky, who is the composer and producer of our theme music.  She uses a Schecter guitar on much of her music.

The album is going through a reinterpretation project with several producers and artists taking part.  They’ve also re-recorded a few songs with strings and piano.

Michael recently had the solo on Un-Natural Disaster re-recorded by none other than Zakk Wylde and there’s a video in production for it.  Zakk & Ice T have already shot their parts and we should be seeing it soon.

Carmine Appice is a legend when it comes to drumming.  AS Rick Van Horn said in Modern Drummer magazine (1999) "Carmine Appice set the foundation for heavy drumming ... before Bonham, before Ian Paice... before anyone else."  He's played with a wide range of bands from Vanilla Fudge, Blue Murder, Rod Stewart, King Kobra, Ozzy Osbourne, Paul Stanley, Ted Nugent, Cactus, and Rod Stewart to name a few.  He even performed on Pink Floyd's "Dogs of War."

He's currently celebrating the reissue of "Carmine Appice's Guitar Zeus" which, released last month, features his '95 and '97 installments of the album and pairs them with five new tracks, yielding a 33 song non-stop who's who of guitar wizardry.

Also this year is the 40th anniversary of the Rod Stewart album Blondes Have More Fun on which Carmine played, sang backing vocals and co-wrote the smash hit "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy." Carmine also co-wrote 1981's "Young Turks from Rod's Tonight I'm Yours album.

Carmine has written several books throughout his career from instructional to biographical.  In "Stick It.  My Life of Sex, Drums, and Rock 'n' Roll" he talks about how hung with Hendrix, trashed hotel rooms, and taught John Bonham (as well as Fred Astaire) a thing or two about drumming (along with some more colorful memories).
